lost_reFound

‘lost_reFound’ is a short animated music video of the song Lost and Found by sasakure*uk. The animation is of the last chorus of the song, and the content of the animation was roughly based around the lyrics. The intention was to portray these two characters who have had a falling out of some kind as the ‘lost’ in lost and found, and then at the end show them reuniting as the ‘found’ in lost and found, alongside the lyric “-Now, I found you.’ 

I had started working with a much longer cut of the song, which as I realised the scope of what I was trying to do I whittled down to the rough 30 seconds it is in the final cut. I realised very early on in production that I would not have the time to do clean linework of my animation, so I leaned into the ‘sketch’ style, and tried to make every drawing in the video ‘wiggle’, to emphasize this effect. I animated the entire video in ToonSquid, an animation software I wanted to get more familiar with, and I would say it did the job well.

The overall style of music video was inspired by the style of animated music video which is common in Vocaloid music. Lost and Found is sung by the vocal synthesizer Hatsune Miku, who has voicebanks on the Vocaloid software. The biggest inspiration for ‘lost_reFound’ would be the music video of Lagtrain, by inabakumori. This music video uses the ‘wiggle’ effect a substantial amount.
